It amazes me how every single time the girlfriend and I are in a disagreement, the second Natalia runs over and gives her a huge hug, she melts. My girlfriend HATES it when I try to hug her even though I know it will help her feel at ease. Well, NOW I have SCIENCE to back up my claims. So, guys, when all else fails, simply give your significant other a long, sincere hug.
When you are hugging someone, each brain is releasing a substance known as oxytocin, which is a neurotransmitter the brain produces. This neurotransmitter acts on your emotional center, which then promotes feelings of peacefulness, while also reducing your anxiety and stress. Now, I am not talking about one of those side hugs, or ‘good to see you’ hugs, but a long, sincere hug. Research has shown that a hug should last AT LEAST twenty seconds or so, which stimulates the release of oxytocin in your brain.
Whether it be after a disagreement, a long stressful day or whatever…. Grab your significant other, your kids and give them big, twenty-second hug. Simple right?
